Atlanta Whiplash Treatment
Whiplash victims often experience pain and discomfort as a result of injury to their necks.
Although over-the-counter medicines such as acetaminophen and naproxen may alleviate mild pain, more severe symptoms may require whiplash treatment.
It is not uncommon for whiplash injuries to cause muscle spasms and neck pain. As a result, your doctor may suggest that you wear a soft cervical collar to prevent muscle strain. In most cases, you will not need to wear the collar at all times, but only when you experience discomfort. However, depending on the severity of your injury, your doctor may suggest otherwise, and you should then follow his or her instructions.
Your doctor may also give you exercises to do while you are recovering from your whiplash injury. Designed to be done at any time or in any location, these simple muscles can improve the strength and flexibility of your neck muscles. For optimal results, try to do the exercises at least two times each week if you can. Inform your doctor if you experience any pain or discomfort while performing the exercises.
You will probably want to avoid strenuous activities for the first few weeks after your injury. Rest as needed, but do not feel obligated to stay in bed. If you feel up to it, you may return to work, as long as your job does not place any strain on your neck and/or shoulder muscles. For exercise, you can take short walks if you want, but you should not attempt to pick up any heavy items or perform physically demanding sports, and other strenuous tasks.
For most people, a whiplash injury will heal slowly over time. Some victims, however, may experience occasional flare-ups as they age, while an increasing number of others may suffer from chronic pain for the rest of their lives.
If you are suffering from whiplash due to a recent auto accident, you may want to discuss your injury with an experienced Atlanta whiplash attorney.
